Jabiru Town

Jabiru is 250 kms from Darwin. It was established in the 1980s to service the Ranger Uranium Mine and has become an important regional centre. Kakadu National Park management is located at the Bowali Visitors Centre 2.5 kms from Jabiru.

Kakadu National Park

kakadu National ParkKakadu National Park is a World Heritage Listed Area. Entry to Kakadu National Park is free. It is situated in the Northern Territory of Australia 160kms from the major city of Darwin.

The town of Jabiru is in Kakadu National Park, 250kms from Darwin. Bowali Visitor Centre near Jabiru and the Warradjan Cultural Centre at Cooinda have maps, information, brochures, and interactive displays.


Some roads may be closed or impassable in the Wet Season (Nov-May). The Bowalli Visitor Centre near Jabiru can provide up to date information on road conditions.

All major roads in the park are sealed. Roads marked 4WD only are rough, unsealed and should not be used unless you have a 4WD vehicle! Do not attempt to travel on roads marked 4WD only in a 2WD vehicle!
Remember: Always carry drinking water in your car! Toilets are available at the visitor centres and the major attractions like Nourlangie Rock, Cooinda, Ubirr etc.

Excellent Fishing.

In Kakadu National Park the East and South Alligator Rivers and the Yellow Water Billabong are the best place to try for the mighty barramundi. See the Kakadu Map.
